How'd the A's-O's game go? A position player walked a reliever
The Orioles destroyed the Athletics on Sunday, and something absurd happened along the way.
First, here's the line score from Sunday's Athletics-Orioles game (box score) ...

Discipline hath been administered! As you can see, the host O's pretty much keel-hauled Oakland, so it should come as no great surprise that an A's position player was reduced to taking the mound in the late innings. Said position player was Ike Davis. As it so happens, events conspired to have Mr. Davis, who on a good day is not a pitcher, face Baltimore reliever Jason Garcia who is not a batsman unless it is a very good day or very long day. Like a lot of AL relievers, he'd never batted before this ...
He walked! A reliever batted against a position player, and he received a base for his troubles!
Let it be said that this is the second time this season -- and in his career -- that Davis has been pressed into mound duty. Know that he pitched around the walk to Garcia and now has a career ERA of 0.00 in 2.0 innings. So there's that.
As for the Orioles, they are for the moment tied with the Angels for the second AL wild card spot (pending the Angels' Sunday night contest against the Royals). While coming into Sunday's slate, the SportsLine Projection Model gave the O's just a 27 percent chance of making the playoffs, they're very much among the serious contenders.
