The Indians have agreed to a deal with right-hander Brett Myers, pending the outcome of a physical. CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman confirms the original report of Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union in Myers' hometown of Jacksonville, Fla. Heyman reports that the contract, if finalized, will be for one year plus a team option for 2014 worth a guaranteed $7 million.
Myers, 32, is coming off a season in which he posted an ERA of 3.31 in 70 appearances for the Astros and White Sox. For his career, Myers has a 4.27 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 1,560 innings as a starter and a 3.36 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 128 2/3 bullpen innings.
On that front, a source tells Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Myers will be given a chance to win a spot in the Indians' rotation.
