Jayson Nix claimed by Royals

The Royals claimed infielder Jayson Nix on waivers Thursday, a few days after he was designated for assignment and waived by the Pirates.

Nix is expected to report to the team when rosters expand Sept. 1. He was hitting just .133/.188/.173 in 34 games with the Pirates and Phillies.
