The Yankees on Tuesday announced plans to retire Derek Jeter's No. 2. The team will honor the legendary shortstop with a pregame ceremony on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. In addition to retiring his uniform number, Jeter will also receive a plaque in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium. Jeter will become the 22nd player to have his number retired by the Yankees.

Jeter retired in 2014 after 20 seasons in the majors, all of them with the Yankees. Along the way, he compiled 3,465 hits; made the All-Star Game 14 times; and won five Silver Sluggers and five Gold Gloves. Jeter was also a central part of five Yankee World Series titles. Once he's eligible, Jeter will surely become a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

In Monument Park, he'll join longtime teammates Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettitte, who were honored in 2015. Mariano Rivera, another longtime teammate of Jeter's, had his number retired by the Yankees in 2013.
