A+ At a certain point, the San Antonio Spurs dropping three after three after three on the Miami Heat is just mean, isn't it? The Spurs torched the Heat in Game 3 of the NBA Finals by hitting 16 of 32 from behind the arc. After back-to-back threes at the end of the first half, the Heat seemed pretty lucky to be within six at the half. The Spurs quickly made them feel unlucky to be playing in Game 3 with their 36-point victory.
F You can't lose a Game 3 in the NBA Finals by 36 points. You certainly can't lose a Game 3 in the NBA Finals by 36 points when you have LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. For the first half of the game, the Heat seemed fortunate to only be down two possessions. By the end of the game, there was nothing they could do to even pretend to compete with the Spurs in Game 3. Horrendous effort and execution that the Spurs exposed.
B+ They missed an eye rake that left Tim Duncan wincing a bit early on in the game. But for the most part, they didn't have to be very involved in tonight's game. Just check to make sure sneakers were behind the 3-point line and then throw your hands up when Danny Green releases the shot. Easy night for the refs.
A+ Remember that game where you had to walk on couches and chairs because you were pretending the floor was lava? Well, Danny Green's hands are lava. Do not touch Danny Green's hands. He had 27 points on 9 of 15 shooting and hit 7 of 9 from 3-point range. Lava.
A+ Gary Neal helped set the tone for this game with 14 points in the first half and the buzzer-beater at the end of the second quarter. He dropped another 10 points in the second half and left the Heat wondering who was supposed to be guarding him all night. Huge contribution off the bench.
F+ Dwyane Wade had a decent game scoring the ball (16 points), had five assists, and four steals. And yet, he never seemed to know where Danny Green was or Gary Neal or Kawhi Leonard were. His defense and help defense were horrendous, no matter what the steals numbers might trick you into believing.
F Aside from that little third quarter flurry by LeBron James to give him 15 points on the night instead of the four he was sporting for most of the game, there isn't any way to spin this as a positive night of contributing and leading for James. He was awful in the way he attacked and the way he executed. And he got torched on the boards and behind the arc.
