49ers' Anthony Davis retires again after returning from year-long hiatus
The 49ers don't provide an explanation in statement announcing the move
Anthony Davis, the 49ers' first-round pick of 2010, retired -- again.
On Monday, the 49ers announced Davis' retirement with a very brief statement that did not provide an explanation. If this sounds familiar, it's because Davis stepped away from the game for the entire 2015 season before getting reinstated and returning to the team this summer.
Davis, an offensive lineman, retired after the 2014 season for health reasons, but he maintained the entire time that he intended to eventually play again. There's no way to know if that's the reason Davis is retiring again.
He did, however, send this message out on Twitter, which quotes Earl Sweatshirt's "Grief."
I just want my time and mind intact, when you lose em both, you can't buy em back.

Davis hardly contributed on the field this season. Though he arrived at training camp 30 pounds lighter than his playing weight in 2014, he failed to win back his starting right tackle job. He was then projected to slot in at right guard, but instead served as the team's backup tackle in the season opener, taking part in just three snaps. He didn't play in either of the 49ers' past two games and also suffered a concussion during practice.
In his 49ers' career, he started 71 games.
