Browns rookie David Njoku thought his new teammate Joe Thomas was a coach
Thomas is only 12 years Njoku's senior but the rookie still mistook his teammate for a coach
Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku is a rookie. He was just selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2017 draft. He's also only 20 years old, as he left the University of Miami after the end of his junior season.
Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas is not a rookie. He's a 10-year veteran that was selected with the third overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He's also 32 years old and he looks like this:

That fact, combined with the fact that the Browns are not exactly the most notable team in the league, offensive linemen are not exactly the most notable players in the league, and that most players are rarely shown on television without their helmets on, likely all contributed to the fact that Njoku saw Thomas at the Browns' rookie dinner and mistook him for a coach.
It was an honor being invited to dinner with the @browns rookies tonight. Got to hear the great @JimBrownNFL32 speak!!

Funniest moment of the night was when @David_Njoku80 asked me if I was a coach!

Njoku's a tight end, so it's entirely possible that he'll be lining up directly next to Thomas quite often this season. Most likely, he will not mistake Thomas for a coach if they both attend the rookie dinner next year.
