The Cleveland Browns will be without one of their wide receivers for the first two weeks of the 2021 NFL regular season. On Tuesday, the league announced that Davion Davis had been suspended for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse. However, he will be able to take part in Cleveland's final preseason game. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, this suspension is related to a 2019 DUI during his time with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Browns made available a statement that was provided by an NFL spokesperson:

"Davion Davis of the Cleveland Browns has been suspended without pay for the first two games of the 2021 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse. He will be able to participate in the remainder of the preseason, including Sunday's final preseason game.

Davis will be eligible to return to the Browns' active roster on Monday, Sept. 20, following the team's Week 2 game vs. Houston."

Davis has been the Browns' leading receiver in both preseason games played thus far. In Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown, and then three passes for 45 yards against the New York Giants on Sunday. Davis went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Sam Houston State, but got a chance with the Vikings. He didn't make the final roster, but was re-signed to the practice squad and appeared in two games.

Davis spent the 2020 season without a team, but got a call from the Browns this summer. He had been impressive in the preseason up to this point.
