Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has informed coach Rex Ryan he will not return for the 2015 season due to "differing defensive philosophies," a league source told Adam Caplan of ESPN. The Bills announced his contract was terminated Tuesday. Buffalo has moved quickly and are reportedly set to hire ex-Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman to the same position.
Schwartz is regarded as a strong defensive coordinator, and does have experience as a coach. From 2009 to 2013, Schwartz complied a 29-51 record in five seasons with the Lions. He was already receiving strong interest from other teams looking to fill the role of defensive coordinator before the announcement of his departure.
