There was a time not long ago when coach Rex Ryan had all the confidence that Mark Sanchez really was the Jets' franchise quarterback. But after three-plus seasons, the reality of Sanchez as something much less than that forced Ryan to bench him for third-stringer and former seventh-rounder Greg McElroy.

It was probably at that moment that Ryan regretted the tattoo on his right arm of what appears to be his wife in nothing but a Sanchez jersey. And, blasphemously, she also looks to be Tebowing.

The New York Daily News sent someone to Paradise Island, Bahamas, where Ryan is vacationing instead of meeting with the media back in New York for his end-of-year press conference. And it was there that the sunbathing coach was photographed with quite possibly the most ridiculous tattoo (click here to see it) that anyone has seen since November.

Is it real? No idea. Maybe Ryan had the foresight to get a temporary tattoo on the off-chance that both Sanchez and Tebow stunk. Or maybe he lost a bet and this was the result.

Either way, when a Daily News reporter approached him in the Bahamas, Ryan offered up an "Oh, s---," before leaving with his wife.

Like most things this season, you could say this is Ryan's doing. If he hadn't canceled his press conference earlier this week, it's unlikely the media would've followed him on his island vacation and we'd be none the wiser about the coach's questionable body-art decisions.

This isn't Ryan's first tat, either. In August 2011, he showed up at training camp looking like a skateboarder from 1993.

Here's what he said at the time: "You know what's funny? I hear the mid-life crisis and all that type of stuff. It's mid-life, all right. You see," Ryan continued, pointing down to his leg, "you've got the mountains, you've got the waves and the shark tooth down there. You've got it all working."

And that nonsense reminded us of something Tina Fey once said -- a prayer for her young daughter: "First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie the Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches."

Rex Ryan, everybody! Your New York Jets head coach!
