In the past decade, Tamba Hali has recorded 86 sacks, all with the Chiefs. On Tuesday, the team made sure Hali will have the chance to hit the 100-sack mark with the Chiefs as well.

Hali, who was set to become a free agent on Wednesday, is staying put in Kansas City.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the contract, which he says is a three-year deal.

The Chiefs selected Hali in the first round of the 2006 draft. Since then, he's given them steady production. Despite turning 32 this past season, Hali still managed 6.5 sacks in 15 games. He's recorded 12.5 sacks in the past two seasons. So clearly, Hali can still find a role on the Chiefs' defense, especially since Justin Houston should continue to function as a top pass-rusher.

And, it's worth repeating: Hali has been incredibly productive over the years.

The Chiefs are coming off an 11-win season, so retaining a productive, yet aging player like Hali makes sense for a team in win-now mode.
