Brian Hoyer will likely remain out this week. (USATSI)

Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a concussion during the team's loss to the New England Patriots two weeks ago. He then sat out last week's win over the Indianapolis Colts while backup T.J. Yates made the start.

Yates tore his ACL during the game and he was replaced by Brandon Weeden, who was claimed off waivers from the Cowboys in mid-November. With Hoyer, who has been feeling better and getting in limited participation in practice, still not having been cleared from the concussion protocal according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, Weeden is in line to make his first start with the Texans this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

As it stands, the Texans are in first place in the decrepit AFC South with their 7-7 record. A win over the Titans plus a Colts loss or tie (or a tie plus a Colts loss), or the scenario described on our Playoff Picture page that would lock in a "strength of victory" tiebreaker, would clinch the division for Houston.

If they don't get the win this week, they'll have another chance in Week 17 against the Jaguars, at which point Hoyer could be back.
