Text messages presented Tuesday in the murder trial of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez show that he tried to set up a meeting with the victim hours before he was killed, the Associated Press reports.

A T-Mobile employee testified Tuesday that a series of texts happened between Hernandez and Odin Lloyd on June 16, 2013. Hernandez reportedly whispered to one of his attorneys while the prosecution presented the cellphone records to the jury.

Hernandez is charged in the June 17, 2013, killing of Lloyd, who was dating the sister of the former NFL player's fiancee. Prosecutors say Hernandez and two friends picked the victim up at his home in Boston, drove him to an industrial park and shot him.
