Adrian Peterson truly is Purple Jesus. Because there really is no logical explanation for what he did against the Jaguars Sunday after shredding his knee in a meaningless late December game last season. Smash cut to September 9 and Peterson looked like his old self in Minnesota's Week 1 overtime win, rushing for two touchdowns and averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

But he's still not 100 percent; the initial diagnosis was an eight- or nine-month recovery and we're a couple weeks short of the nine-month mark. On Tuesday, Peterson talked to Jim Rome about where he is and where he needs to be.

Adrian Peterson on the final five percent.

How close is Peterson to 100 percent? Really close.

"I'm at 95 percent," he told Rome. "That sounds like 'he's almost healthy,' but to me that five percent is huge and it's going to make a huge difference so I can't wait until I hit that mark."

And of that five percent Peterson thinks that one percent is dealing with the mental aspect of overcoming a serious knee injury.

"I know that (the knee) is strong enough," he said. "I know that the ligament, structurally, is where it needs to be and it's going to continue to get strong. So I can't worry about re-injuring (it) or anything like that because I just control things that I can control. I'd just say strength-wise it's not where I want it to be. That kind of hurts me a little bit with my speed and the way I want to cut … but I'm seeing improvement and with time I can't do anything but improve."
