Steve Mason is going back to what works when it comes to goalie mask designs with his third zombie-themed design. After featuring some zombified American icons on one mask and his undead teammates on another, Mason’s latest zombie mask is a tad more sinister.

The zombie characters that adorn Mason’s new mask for the 2014-15 season are former inmates of Philadelphia’s famed Eastern State Penitentiary, most notably Al Capone. The infamous gangster did eight months in ESP for carrying a concealed, deadly weapon in 1929.

All of the zombified inmates are of course wearing orange jumpsuits, which may not be period accurate, but gives it a nice Flyers touch.

Also featured on the mask, which was designed by local Philly artist Fran Drummond, is Mason’s bulldog George with a “Beware of Bullies” sign.

Mason has had some creepy masks, but this one just may take the cake. With the Flyers’ history of keeping no shortage of bad attitudes on the roster, this is an interesting way to pay tribute to that reputation and take it to an extreme.

Mason’s love of zombies has made for some pretty terrific masks and this is yet another masterpiece.
