A high school goalie in Minnesota flew the coop in the middle of a game in shocking fashion and then threw everybody the bird.
With three minutes left and a 2-1 lead, Farmington senior goalie Austin Krause was playing the puck behind his own net. But instead of pulling the puck off the boards for his defenseman to take, he calmly tucked the puck into his own net and the game was tied. Without hesitation, Krause immediately started to skate off the ice but not before taking off his gloves and letting his coaches on the bench know he thinks they're No. 1. Lastly, he finished it off with a salute.
Of course he did.
Just to pour a little salt into the wound, Farmington gave up a power-play goal in the closing minutes and lost to Chaska 3-2.
And what would be the reason why a goaltender would do this? Well, it was Senior Night, so that's why he was getting the start. And according to the Western College Hockey Blog, Krause was upset that he had lost playing time to a sophomore. I guess that will do it.
He apparently waited for the perfect time to exact his revenge as this was clearly something he had in mind. He probably decided to go out with a bang and, well, he succeeded.
Alas, there is more to the story here. Krause took to his Facebook page -- where else? -- to explain his side of the story and give a little more context behind what happened. Playing time was indeed an issue.
From the Farmington Independent:
"They played this sophomore goalie for the starter, he was terrible, I would try and talk to the coaches about this and tell them I want playing time but they never really listen to me or gave me a chance to show them that I'm a better goalie but still wouldn't trust me so I had it it with I asked a few of my players if they care if I did it and they didn't care they thought it would be funny so at the third period they dumped it in I stopped it put in my net started to skate off then flicked the coaches not the team the coaches then I saluted them then got off."
He added: "My hockey season is over. I did it for myself. (Like my status) if you think the coaches should quit:)"
While he might be free of punishment from the hockey team considering it was Senior Night and I highly doubt he was planning to go back after this anyway, it doesn't look like he's going to get away with this from the school.
Apparently, the goalie who scored on his own net and flipped off his coaches has been suspended from school for 10 days.

The whole thing reminds me of, I believe, Bad News Bears, when a ground ball back to the pitcher becomes an inside-the-park home run thanks to the kid on the mound being upset with his dad/coach and doing all he can to hurt his own team. Only this was real.
