VIDEO: Kyle Flanagan crunched by devastating hit in Swedish league
Former Flyers prospect Kyle Flanagan was crunched with a huge open-ice hit by Jesper Jensen in a Swedish Hockey League game. Jensen was tossed from the game.
There has yet to be an incident of supplemental discipline in the NHL this season, but there has been plenty of action across the pond. One of the year’s worst to date came from a Swedish Hockey League game between Farjestad and MODO.
Jesper Jensen of Farjestad absolutely crushed Kyle Flanagan with a massive (and high) open-ice hit that left the MoDo forward in some trouble on the ice. Flanagan’s arms tensed up after he hit the ice and he had that always-disturbing far-away look in his eyes before rolling to his side.
Flanagan, a former U.S. college hockey star and onetime Flyers prospect, was taken off the ice and did not return to the game. He required assistance to get to the bench as he was quite wobbly on his feet.
Jensen got a major penalty and was tossed from the game for the high hit and could be looking at a suspension from the SHL for the devastating blow. There was clear head contact, which has been taken especially seriously in international leagues.
Hopefully Flanagan will be alright after that one. The 25-year-old was a standout at St. Lawrence University before signing with the Philadelphia Flyers’ AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms. He spent last season in the AHL before heading to Europe.
