What might be one of the weirdest situations in the 2016 NHL playoffs unfolded in the second period in Chicago on Tuesday night when Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford briefly lost his mind and tried to fight St. Louis Blues rookie Robby Fabbri.

It all started when Fabbri went for a rebound in front of the net and was checked by Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. That hit from Toews sent Fabbri into Crawford, who did not appreciate the contact (probably in part because he just returned from what was believed to be a head injury before the playoffs started).

His response was to get up and go after Fabbri and pretty much attack him in the corner until everybody else got involved.

Now that is a great way to pick up the intensity in a playoff game.

At the other end of the ice Blues goalie Brian Elliott did his part to skate out to the blue line just in case he needed to get involved.

But here is what makes this entire episode completely ridiculous: The Blackhawks ended up getting a power play out of that situation. Fabbri was given the initial two-minute minor for goaltending interference, while Crawford and Andrew Ladd picked up roughing minors for the Blackhawks that were matched by roughing minors for Blues defensemen Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk.

The Blackhawks would score on that power play to take a 2-1 lead. Vladimir Tarasenko ended up tying the game a few minutes later for his second goal of the game to continue his incredible postseason play. The Blues would go on to win the game 4-3.

Following the Blues' loss in Game 2, their coach Ken Hitchcock talked about how when you are playing the Stanley Cup champions calls are not always going to go your way. He probably feels the same way after watching that sequence unfold on Tuesday.
