You know how you know you just made a spectacular save? When the guy who shot the puck has no idea how you made it and is so surprised he literally says, “Wow.”

St. Louis Blues goalie Jake Allen got to experience just that when he flashed the leather to rob Los Angeles Kings star Anze Kopitar.

Allen actually made multiple saves just prior to the puck getting kicked out to Kopitar. It looked like he had a wide-open net to put the puck through. Kopitar put a little mustard on the shot, but in one gigantic lunge, Allen managed to reach out and snatch the shot from mid-air.

Kopitar stood behind the net for a good couple of seconds trying to figure out how exactly that puck didn’t go in. He finally said, “Wow” before skating away.

Allen has been exceptional over his three starts previous to taking his place between the pipes Tuesday night. That stop was one of 12 saves the Blues netminder made in the first period as his club got supremely outplayed by the Kings in the opening 20.

Ken Hitchock has been sticking with the hot hand lately, and Allen certainly is that guy right now.
