The Montreal Canadiens undoubtedly miss starter Carey Price as they’ve started to slump, but backup goalie Mike Condon has been giving his club a fighting chance.

Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, he made one of the more remarkable saves we’ve seen this season at a crucial point in the game. With the Hurricanes pressing for a goal. Condon made multiple saves, but couldn’t get the puck covered.

Hurricanes captain Eric Staal gave the puck one more whack and it skipped up and over Condon. The Habs netminder flailed at the puck, twisting his glove-hand arm behind his back and swatting the puck away. Staal could do nothing but throw his head back in disbelief. He was inches away from scoring and putting the Hurricanes on top.

Unfortunately for Condon, that save would be the only real highlight of the game. The Habs lost to the Hurricanes as Jeff Skinner scored a power-play goal late in the period to make it 3-2.

The Canadiens goalie surely would have preferred the win, but at least he’s going to be in all of the end-of-season highlight packages.
