Aston Villa 3, PSG 2 (4-5)
BVB 3, FC Barcelona 1 (3-5)

It was an eventful night in the Champions League as both FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the Champions League semifinals despite losing the second legs of the quarterfinals against Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa. While FC Barcelona will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Inter and Bayern Munich that will take place on Wednesday, after the Nerazzurri won 2-1 in the first leg in Germany, PSG will face the winners of the tie between Real Madrid and Arsenal.
An exciting matchup unfolded at Villa Park, where Aston Villa secured a 3-2 victory over PSG but fell short of the semifinals, as the French giants came in with a two goal lead thanks to a 3-1 win in the first leg. It was a challenging start for the side coached by Unai Emery as the home team conceded a goal to the visitors and to Moroccan winger Achraf Hakimi, thanks to a mistake from Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. After Nuno Mendes second goal for PSG, the match seemed over but the goal of former Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans game the home side hope. In the second half, Aston Villa fought back with two more goals, including a stunning effort by Ezri Konsa, set up by a solo run from Marcus Rashford. It wasn't enough for Emery's team, which ends their Champions League run in the quarterfinals thanks to an outstanding performance of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who saved his team at least three times in the second half and finished with five saves.
FC Barcelona struggled a lot at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund as the guests immediately seemed a bit lost especially after last week's performance in their home ground. A blunder by Wojciech Szczesny gifted Dortmund a penalty, scored by Serhou Guirassy 11 minutes into the game. The early goal gave more hopes to the home side, boosting Dortmund's momentum as they looked to become only the second team ever (after Barcelona ironically enough) to overturn a four-goal deficit. In fact, the same striker scored another one in the fourth minute of the second half, but in the moment the game seemed to be back in contention Ramy Bensebaini's own goal ended the dreams of the home side. Despite the third goal scored by Guirassy, it was too late for the German team that have to blame the performance of the first leg if they were not able to qualify for the semifinals for the second time in a row following their defeat to Real Madrid in the 2024 final.
Semifinals: April 29-30 and May 6-7
Final: May 31
Despite Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund both won in the second legs, PSG and FC Barcelona will play the semifinals of the 2024-25 Champions League edition.
Guirassy scored his third goal of the night and give some more hopes to the Dortmund fans, with less than 15 minutes on the clock before the final whistle. Can BVB still make it? It might be too late..
Despite the three goals conceded to the home team, Gigio Donnarumma made two crucial saves on both Rashford and Tielemans. If PSG are still ahead on the aggregate they should thank their Italian goalkeeper...
What's going on here?? Both FC Barcelona and Aston Villa scored at the same time, with the English team now only one goal behind the aggregate thanks to one scored by Konsa with a PHENOMENAL assist of Marcus Rashford. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund are now almost out of the competition..
Huge save by Donnarumma on Marcus Rashford who went really close to score the third goal that could mean game on
This is becoming much more interesting than what we thought. Aston Villa immediately score another goal with McGinn and are now on the 2-2, if they score two more we will have extra time!
We might have something to follow here! Borussia Dortmund scored the second one of the night again with Guirassy!
Borussia Dortmund immediately had a big chance to score the second goal with Adeyemi, who is playing really well tonight.
Both games have restarted. Let's see what these last 45 minutes give to us, with PSG and FC Barcelona one step away from the top four.
Despite strong first halves from both Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa, FC Barcelona and PSG remain in command of their quarterfinal matchups, holding leads with only 45 minutes to go. Can they maintain their dominance and secure their spots in the next round?
It's 2-1 now for PSG after the goal of Youri Tielemans after a nice play of the home side even if might be too late for them. Aston Villa fans look now confident again but can they score three more in the remaining part of the game?
This is probably it for Aston Villa as PSG scored the second goal of the game with Nuno Mendes also thanks to a nice assist of Ousmane Dembele. There are no many chances for Aston Villa to make the comeback now.
With 20 minutes left before the end of the first half, Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa are pushing to score at least another one before the 45th minute, but both PSG and FC Barcelona are now trying to keep more the ball.
Despite the goal scored by the guests is not helping the chances of the home side to make the comeback, Aston Villa are trying again to score at least one goal to be back in the game as they need to score three goals to bring the quarterfinal's second leg to the extra time.
Serhou Guirassy scored the first goal of the match at the Signal Iduna Park with a nice penalty after the foul of Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Sczesny on Pascal Gross. BVB are back in the game!
While Aston Villa were pushing to score the opening goal, it was PSG and winger Achraf Hakimi who scored the opening goal at Villa Park also thanks to the assist of Bradley Barcola and the mistake of Emiliano Martinez.
As expected, both Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund are trying to push hard and score the opening goals of the return legs as they need to win to make the unlikely comebacks.
Both games have started, stay with us for all the biggest updates on the quarterfinals.
Aston Villa have a two goal deficit to overcome at home to Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid need three against Arsenal just to take the tie to extra time while if Borussia Dortmund were to eliminate Barcelona they would become only the second team in the history of Champions League to qualify after losing by a four goal margin in the first leg. Our own James Benge broke down all the biggest comebacks in the history of the Champions League.

It was Nuno Mendes, just before the final whistle, who secured the 3-1 final score, making things much easier for PSG ahead of the second leg.
Hansi Flick's Barcelona will face Borussia Dortmund in Germany for the Champions League quarterfinals return leg at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday after winning the first leg 4-0 in Barcelona last week.
