It was a month ago that Texas opened its 2016 season with a big win overNotre Dame, filling Longhorns everywhere with happy thoughts and raised expectations about what could happen this year.

It's now Oct. 1, and Texas just lost its second straight game, falling to 2-2 on the season. While losing to Oklahoma State on the road isn't exactly an embarrassment, doing so while giving up 49 points and 555 yards is not the best look.

Following the loss, Texas' interim athletic director Mike Perrin was asked about coach Charlie Strong's status with the Longhorns, and his answers certainly left some room for interpretation.

Now, some will immediately take these quotes as "Charlie Strong is in trouble," and I don't think that's actually the case here.

Texas' defense has now allowed 99 points and 1,062 yards in its last two games. In the win against Notre Dame, it allowed 47 points and 444 yards.

In other words, Texas has not played well.

So when Perrin says he's going to "evaluate everything," I think the person truly in danger here is defensive coordinator Vance Bedford.

Bedford has worked with Strong for a long time -- the two have been together since Bedford joined Strong at Florida in 2008, and Strong has been very loyal to him over time, taking him to Louisville and then Texas.

But I get the feeling that Strong's loyalty is going to be tested in the coming week, especially considering his pedigree is as a defensive specialist.
