Michael Jordan was a mysterious no-show for Monday’s national championship game between Gonzaga and North Carolina. It wouldn’t be weird if it was just a booster who decided to stay home. But he’s Michael Jordan, the most famous alum of North Carolina and is the brand of the Tar Heels basketball program.

Tar Heels coach Roy Williams speculated afterward that his absence likely centered around his superstition. His belief was that because UNC lost in the title game last season when he was there to witness Villanova win at the buzzer, that he’d opted to sit this one out.

We may never know the exact reason why Jordan didn’t attend the game, but even though he wasn’t on hand to witness the program’s sixth national title, he sent an epic tweet and a congratulatory text message sent to Williams.

As you might remember from earlier this season, Jordan gave a speech during a basketball game in Chapel Hill talking up the football program and the direction under Larry Fedora, then, of course, went viral after saying “The ceiling is the roof.” So the subtle reference drop makes it a classic.

Jordan may have been talking about the football program during his brief speech earlier this season, but the same goes for the basketball program. With six national titles, the program is now third all time behind UCLA and Kentucky. And as long as Roy Williams is the coach, the ceiling might’ve already been raised through the roof.
