What to Know
The #25 Texas Longhorns and the #10 Purdue Boilermakers are set to clash at 8:40 p.m. ET March 20 at Fiserv Forum in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Texas earned a 70-66 win in their most recent contest against the Boilermakers in November of 2019.
The Longhorns earned some postseason bragging rights after a successful outing this past Friday. They came out on top against the Virginia Tech Hokies by a score of 81-73. Texas can attribute much of their success to guard Andrew Jones, who shot 5-for-7 from downtown and finished with 21 points and five rebounds, and guard Marcus Carr, who had 15 points and nine assists. Carr had some trouble finding his footing against the TCU Horned Frogs two weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction.
Meanwhile, the Yale Bulldogs typically have all the answers at home, but this past Friday the Boilermakers proved too difficult a challenge. Purdue blew past the Bulldogs 78-56. Purdue relied on the efforts of center Zach Edey, who had 16 points in addition to nine boards and three blocks, and guard Jaden Ivey, who had 22 points.
Texas is expected to lose this next one by 3.5. Those betting on them against the spread shouldn't have high expectations for them since the team is 0-4 ATS when expected to lose.
Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Longhorns enter the matchup with only 60 points allowed per game on average, good for sixth best in college basketball. But the Boilermakers come into the game boasting the 12th most points per game in college basketball at 79.7. These opposing strengths should make for an exciting matchup.
