West Virginia coach Bob Huggins dropped to his knees and required medical assistance during a timeout in the team’s 77-62 home win over Texas on Monday night.

Huggins, 63, clutched his chest as he exited the court on his own power. He appeared to be pointing at his heart, but continued coaching before going to the locker room with his team at halftime.

Huggins has had heart issues in the past, including a heart attack while he coached at Cincinnati in 2002. But he shrugged off the scary moment, and even gave an indication to Texas coach Shaka Smart he was OK to continue.

On the broadcast, ESPN’s Holly Rowe relayed that Huggins said his internal defibrillator went off and gave him a shock. Rowe reported that Huggins received approval from the West Virginia athletic director and his personal doctor, who cleared him to return.

Since the fall, he has spent most of his time coaching from the sideline on his stool, perhaps intentionally avoiding movement and staying off his feet.
