Grizzlies' Sam Merrill: Great showing in preseason loss
Merrill tallied 30 points (11-17 FG, 8-13 3Pt) to go along with two assists, two steals, one rebound and one block in 33 minutes in the loss to the Pacers on Wednesday.
With many of the Grizzlies' starters resting, Merrill had the opportunity to be a focal point of the offense and used the most of that chance, especially in his shooting efficiency and defense. In his limited playtime last season with the Bucks, his main weapon was his three-point shooting, making 44.7 percent of his shots from deep, so it is a good sign that his shooting efficiency can keep up with increased volume. Although the 25-year-old is rather low in the depth chart, this performance may have earned him a closer look to gain a set role as the Grizzlies close out their preseason on Friday and look ahead to the regular season.... Grizzlies' Sam Merrill: Nursing sprained ankle
Merrill will not play in Tuesday's preseason opener against the Bucks due to a sprained right ankle.
The issue is likely minor, but the Grizzlies will exercise caution with the second-year guard, who came over from Milwaukee as part of the Grayson Allen trade. Once healthy, Merrill will use the preseason to attempt to establish himself as an option off the bench for his new team. However, chances are he will not have much of a fantasy impact this season.... See More ... See Less
Grizzlies' Sam Merrill: Dealt to Memphis
Merrill, along with two future second-round picks, was dealt from the Bucks to the Grizzlies for Grayson Allen on Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Merrill -- the last pick in the 2020 Draft -- mostly saw garbage-time minutes with the NBA champion Bucks last season. He's a three-point shooter who went 21-of-47 (44.7 percent) from distance. Merrill is unlikely to see significant minutes with the Grizzlies, and there's a good chance he's not an everyday player. As a result, he can be ignored in fantasy.... See More ... See Less
Bucks' Sam Merrill: Off injury report for Game 6
Merrill (ankle) isn't included on the injury report and should be available for the Bucks in Tuesday's Game 6 matchup with the Suns in the NBA Finals.
Merrill was listed as out ahead of both of the previous two games of the series with a right ankle sprain, but he's apparently made a full recovery within the last week. Even before the injury surfaced, Merrill hasn't been featured in coach Mike Budenholzer's rotation. Don't expect him to see the floor Tuesday unless the game turns in a non-competitive direction.... Bucks' Sam Merrill: Solid performance in loss
Merrill totaled 13 points (5-13 FG, 3-8 3Pt), six rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes during Friday's 127-119 loss to the Hornets.
The rookie was a healthy DNP the previous four games, but he saw his second-most minutes of the season Friday as the Bucks' entire lineup was out due to various injuries. Jeff Teague and Bryn Forbes drew the start at the guard positions, but Merrill played the most minutes off the bench and was the team's fourth-leading scorer. Oddly, Pat Connaughton was averaging the most minutes between the available guards Friday but saw the fewest minutes, perhaps underscoring Merrill's paltry spot in the team's rotation.... Merrill played three minutes off the bench Sunday in the Bucks' 128-115 win over the Kings, finishing with zero points (0-1 FG) and one rebound.
After a five-game stint in the G League bubble in Orlando with the Memphis Hustle, Merrill rejoined the Bucks ahead of Friday's win over the Thunder. While he didn't play in that contest, the rookie was able to pick up some garbage-time run to close out the weekend. Milwaukee could soon get Jrue Holiday (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) back in the lineup, and once that happens, Merrill may be a candidate to return to the G League.... See More ... See Less
Bucks' Sam Merrill: Goes for 17 points Monday
Merrill had 17 points (6-16 FG, 5-10 3Pt, 0-2 FT), eight rebounds and three assists across 31 minutes in Monday's win over Salt Lake City.
Merrill once again ended as one of Memphis' top performers, finishing as the team's second-best scorer while also ending just two rebounds shy of posting a double-double. Merrill has lacked consistency thus far, though, with two single-digit scoring appearances mixed with two games where he surpassed the 15-point mark.... See More ... See Less
