Top college football expert predictions for bowl games on Dec. 18, 2021

One of Sallee's top college football picks for bowl action on Saturday: He's backing Oregon State (-7) to cover against Utah State in the 2021 Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Utah State has the better record at 10-3, compared to Oregon State's 7-5 mark. Oregon State played the tougher schedule, however, and Sallee has isolated Oregon State's strong rushing attack as the x-factor in this matchup. Running back B.J. Baylor piled up 1,259 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground this season. Three other players ran for more than 275 yards.

That's going to present problems for a Utah State defense that really struggled against the run.

"The Aggies' run defense has been porous at best and downright bad at worst," Sallee told SportsLine. "The Beavers have made a living on the ground this year, averaging 217.3 yards per game -- tops in the Pac-12. That running game is a big reason why they've scored touchdowns on 72.2 percent of their red-zone trips -- second most in the conference. This will be an old-school slugfest, which favors the Beavers in a big way."
