Duke unveils new helmet color schemes
Duke head coach David Cutcliffe unveiled two new helmet color schemes to go with the classic blue-on-white helmet they used last season.
The Duke Blue Devils are the latest team to unveil an alternate helmet for 2012.
In addition to the white helmets with the blue D on each side, head coach David Cutcliffe showed two new color schemes: Dark blue with white lettering

and an alternate black-on-black design.

"Our main concern is that the players won't want to hit anybody in them ... to keep them shiny," Cutcliffe said, tongue-in-cheek.

The Blue Devils wore all black uniforms for the 2011 season opener against Richmond. Cutcliffe waited until after pre-game warmups to show them to the team and blamed the team's excitement over the surprise for Duke's poor showing at the start of the game.
Cutcliffe said he wanted to unveil the new helmets early to avoid that problem this season. "We don't want there to be any surprises," he said.
The team is still deciding a schedule for wearing the different helmet designs and looking at helmet-uniform combinations.
