Mike Leach's ideal cabinet position for Donald Trump: 'Secretary of Offense'
Mike Leach weighed in on Donald Trump, politics, The Matrix and more
Washington State's Mike Leach is 113-74 as a football coach and undefeated all-time in terms of quotability.
The Cougars are in action on Saturday afternoon at Colorado, battling for the Pac-12 title. The lead-up to the game had Leach getting a chance to review his epic press conference rant after the team's 0-2 start, where he said Washington State had "the atmosphere of a Jaycee softball team" and used their poor performance in losses to Eastern Washington and Boise State as examples of our country's issues "where everyone gets a trophy."
"Everybody was hard on everybody that week," Leach told ESPN's Tom Rinaldi. "We got in a rhythm, started reinforce what we were capable of and what we could do."
The interview, which aired as part of College Gameday, also included some rapid fire takes on the President-elect Donald Trump, the term "system quarterback" and the the most overrated movie of all time.
On whether Leach cares about offending people: "I don't want to unnecessarily offend somebody but you know some of those people, it's their prerogative to get offended by everything, I don't have much sympathy for them."
Dream cabinet position for Donald Trump's administration: "Secretary of Offense. I'd have to learn on the job but sadly I think a lot of politicians learn on the job. I think I'd be great to usher in that position."
On the term system quarterback: "Absurd. Total cop-out. That's what people that can't coach say. If you don't have a system as a coach, then what do they need you for.
On the most overrated movie of all time: "The Matrix. No offense to The Matrix crowd, but you're either a Matrix person or you're not and I am not."
Best Supreme Court justice: "Sandra Day O'Connor is the best one I don't care what anyone says."
In terms of the Pac-12 title race, Washington State could lose to Colorado on Saturday and still win the North Division with a victory against Washington in the Apple Cup. But that's the kind of "it's OK if we lose" thinking that Leach would probably scoff at as another example of us losing our way as a country.
