McLaughlin was waived by the Mavericks on Monday, Bobby Karalla of the Mavericks' official site reports.
McLaughlin averaged 13.3 points, 4.8 assists and 4.7 rebounds across 12 games in the G League for the Texas Legends but appeared in only four games at the NBA level. This move likely makes room for Dallas to retain Marquese Chriss -- who recently signed a third 10-day contract with the Mavericks -- when Kristaps Porzingis returns from the COVID-19 list.

McLaughlin (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) played 31 minutes Saturday for the G League's Texas Legends in the affiliate's 122-105 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, finishing with 11 points (3-10 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds an four assists.
The appearance with the Legends marked McLaughlin's first in either the NBA or the G League since entering the health and safety protocols Dec. 23. One of Dallas' two two-way players, McLaughlin is expected to see the majority of his playing time in the G League for the remainder of the season.

McLaughlin (COVID-19 protocols) is not listed on the injury report ahead of Wednesday's contest against the Warriors.
McLaughlin has been sidelined since Dec. 21 due to the NBA's health and safety protocols, but it appears he will be available Wednesday. However, the two-way rookie won't be a factor in head coach Jason Kidd's rotation, as he's only made four appearances this season and never played more than four minutes in any of those games.

Considering McLaughlin has already been in the protocols for 11 days, he should be on track to return at some point this week, assuming he's not dealing with overly severe symptoms of the virus. McLaughlin recorded seven points (1-9 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 11 rebounds, six assists and one steal over 34 minutes during Monday's 129-122 win over Rio Grande Valley.
It was quite a rough shooting performance for McLaughlin, but the guard was able to make up for the inaccurate performance by providing in other departments for the Legends during the team's victory Monday. McLaughlin's 11 rebounds led all Texas players, and his six assists also marked a team-high. The UC Santa Barbara product will look to build off this performance when the Legends face Rio Grande Valley yet again Wednesday.

Mavericks' JaQuori McLaughlin: Fills up stat sheet
McLaughlin recorded 22 points (7-16 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 5-6 FT), 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals in 37 minutes during Thursday's 115-99 win over the Hustle.
It has been a solid start to the G League season for the UC Santa Barbara product. McLaughlin is averaging 16.2 points, 5.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 33.7 minutes per game this year. The guard is on a two-way contract this year and has seen NBA action in one contest thus far. It will be interesting to see when the Mavericks' organization decides to recall the rookie.
