Suns' Collin Gillespie: Makes impact on defense Wednesday
Gillespie finished with zero points (0-8 FG, 0-8 3Pt, 0-1 FT), one rebound, two assists and four steals over 21 minutes during Wednesday's 124-83 loss to the Trail Blazers.
The fourth-year guard couldn't get his shot going, but the same was true for most of his teammates as the Suns shot just 35.7 percent from the floor in the rout, and 19.4 percent from three-point range. Gillespie at least tried to compensate on the defensive end with his game-high four steals. He's coming off a career-best 2025-26 campaign in which he scored 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 boards, 2.9 threes and 1.2 steals over 28.5 minutes in 80 regular-season games, and his role as a key part of Phoenix's second unit appears secure.

Gillespie sat out Wednesday's preseason loss to the Spurs for maintenance purposes, but he'll be back in action for Friday's final exhibition game. Gillespie is averaging 7.3 points, 1.7 triples and 1.3 steals in 16.9 minutes per contest this preseason.

Suns' Collin Gillespie: Likely taking night off
Gillespie did not take part in Wednesday's full morning shootaround and isn't expected to play against San Antonio, Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic reports.
The guard's anticipated absence further thins Phoenix's backcourt, with Devin Booker and Jalen Green also expected to sit. Gillespie's next opportunity to play will be Friday's preseason finale against Utah, assuming he's available.

Suns' Collin Gillespie: Perfect from field
Gillespie finished with eight points (3-3 FG, 2-2 3Pt), one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block in 17 minutes during Monday's 109-107 preseason loss to Detroit.
Gillespie was efficient while operating with Phoenix's second unit and opened the second half alongside Luke Kennard and Jordan Goodwin. The 27-year-old should remain in the mix for backup point guard minutes after establishing himself as a reliable perimeter shooter last season.

Across 80 regular-season outings last season, the sharpshooter averaged 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 three-pointers and 1.2 steals while shooting 40.2 percent from beyond the arc in 28.5 minutes per game.
