J.T. Ginn ATH P
Athletics' J.T. Ginn: Ineffective in loss
4m agoGinn (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Guardians.
The five walks were a season high for Ginn, who threw 50 of 88 pitches for strikes. The right-hander experienced shoulder soreness in his previous start, but his workload Friday suggests he wasn't facing any limitations. Across eight outings (five starts), he has a 4.30 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB through 29.1 innings. Ginn isn't likely to dazzle often on the mound, instead serving as a No. 4 or 5 starter. His next start is tentatively expected to be on the road in Philadelphia.

Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Perfect at plate Friday
8m agoDeLauter went 4-for-4 with two doubles, one walk, two RBI and one run scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Athletics.
DeLauter's bat is running hot -- he's hit safely in eight of his last nine games, going 14-for-32 (.438) in that span. He hasn't hit a home run during that stretch, but he has three doubles, a triple and eight RBI. On the year, the outfield prospect is batting .286 with an .896 OPS, five homers, 20 RBI, 13 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over his first 30 major-league games.
-
Rhys Hoskins CLE 1B
Guardians' Rhys Hoskins: Homer, double in win
13m agoHoskins went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a two-run double in Friday's 8-5 win over the Athletics.
Hoskins' two-run two-bagger tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning, and he added a solo shot in the seventh that ended up being the decisive run. The first baseman had gone just 2-for-13 across six games since his last multi-hit performance. He's batting .219 with a .751 OPS, two homers, nine RBI, 13 runs scored, six doubles and no stolen bases over 90 plate appearances this season. Hoskins should be in the lineup against most southpaws while seeing part-time usage between first base and designated hitter against right-handers.
-
Cade Smith CLE P
Guardians' Cade Smith: Picks up eighth save
17m agoSmith struck out one over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the save in Friday's 8-5 win over the Athletics.
The Guardians had to dig deep in this one, but Smith was able to close it out as the sixth reliever to appear in the game. After a bumpy start to the season, Smith has settled in with just one run allowed over his last 6.1 innings, a span in which he has added a 7:1 K:BB. He's 8-for-10 on save chances this season while pitching to a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB through 15.1 innings.

Things didn't get much better for Cantillo after that, and he departed the game after 69 pitches (40 strikes), falling short of the five-inning mark for the third time in seven outings this season. He's now allowed five homers over his last four games. The southpaw is at a 3.67 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 36:16 K:BB over 34.1 innings, showcasing strikeout upside and mid-rotation potential despite some occasional inconsistency. His next start is projected to be on the road versus the Royals.

Connor Joe SEA RF
Mariners' Connor Joe: Lifts homer in loss
45m agoJoe went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Royals.
Joe's homer was his first of the season. The 33-year-old has hit safely in his last four contests, going 4-for-11 in that span. He's filling a depth role for the Mariners with the ability to cover first base and both corner outfield spots, though the bulk of his playing time will come against left-handed pitchers. Joe has added three RBI, two runs scored, a double and one stolen base over 17 plate appearances this season.

Edgar Quero CHW C
White Sox's Edgar Quero: Not in Friday's lineup
9h agoQuero is not in the White Sox's starting lineup against the Padres on Friday.
Quero will get a breather after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout during the White Sox's 3-2 win over the Angels on Wednesday. He'll begin Friday's game on the bench while Drew Romo starts behind home plate and bats ninth while catching pitches from Noah Schultz.
-
Tyler Soderstrom ATH C
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Back in action Friday
9h agoSoderstrom (shoulder/head) is starting in left field and batting sixth Friday against the Guardians.
Soderstrom sat the past two games after getting banged up on a dive attempt in left field Tuesday, but he's ready to go for Friday's series opener versus Cleveland. Through his first 29 games of the season, the 24-year-old is slashing .211/.298/.404 with three home runs, one stolen base, 18 RBI and 14 runs.
-
Elias Diaz KC C
Royals' Elias Diaz: Drives first homer of 2026
15h agoDiaz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Athletics.
Diaz cracked his first homer of the season to the opposite field in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to three, though the Royals were unable to mount a comeback. The 35-year-old has seen limited playing time since being called up April 19 as the team's third catcher but has produced when called upon, going 4-for-11 (.364) with a homer, two doubles, three RBI, two runs and a walk across four appearances.

Gabriel Moreno ARI C
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Returns from injured list
16h agoThe Diamondbacks activated Moreno (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Moreno is ready to go after missing the past two-plus weeks with a left oblique strain. Since his absence was relatively brief, the Diamondbacks felt a rehab assignment wasn't necessary. He'll return to being the team's primary catcher.
-
Rhys Hoskins CLE 1B
-
Jac Caglianone KC 1B
Royals' Jac Caglianone: Slugs third homer
1h agoCaglianone went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-6 win over the Mariners.
Caglianone has homered three times over his last nine games, accounting for half of his hits in that span and all of his homers on the year. The outfielder continues to see a strong-side platoon role in right field. He's batting .253 with a .762 OPS, five RBI, 12 runs scored, five doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 102 plate appearances this season.
-
Vinnie Pasquantino KC 1B
Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Homers in return to lineup
1h agoPasquantino went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a second RBI and a total of two runs scored in Friday's 7-6 win over the Mariners.
Pasquantino had been playing through lower-back tightness for a while before it flared up enough to take him out of the lineup for a couple of games this week. He was able to make an impact in his return to the starting nine, and he played the full game at first base. Pasquantino's four homers this season have all come over his last 12 games, a span in which he's gone 9-for-42 (.214). That's still slightly better than his season-long average of .176, which has come with a .631 OPS, 16 RBI, 13 runs scored, three doubles and two triples over 129 plate appearances.
-
Munetaka Murakami CHW 1B
White Sox's Munetaka Murakami: Blasts 13th homer
2h agoMurakami went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and two walks in Friday's 8-2 win over the Padres.
Murakami regained the outright lead in homers in the majors with this blast, his 13th of the year. The 26-year-old has gone 6-for-31 (.194) with three long balls and seven RBI over his last eight games, though that stretch followed a five-game homer streak. He's batting .239 with a .967 OPS through 141 plate appearances this season.

4h agoAlonso went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Yankees.

-
Ben Rice NYY 1B
Yankees' Ben Rice: Goes deep in win
4h agoRice went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 7-2 win over the Orioles.
Rice broke the game open, giving the Yankees a 5-1 lead with a three-run blast in the second inning. He's posted four multi-hit efforts over his past eight games, with five going for extra bases in that span. It continued what has been an excellent start for the 27-year-old, who owns a .330/.441/.778 slash line with 11 homers, 26 RBI, 27 runs scored and a steal across 127 plate appearances.
-
Bryson Stott PHI 2B
Phillies' Bryson Stott: Cracks first homer Friday
2h agoStott went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, one walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 6-5 win over the Marlins.
With the Phillies nursing a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning, Stott took lefty reliever Cade Gibson deep for his first homer of the season to put Philadelphia up by five. It's been a struggle at the plate for Stott through the first month-plus of the season, as he's now slashing just .211/.268/.311 with the one long ball, eight RBI, seven runs scored, six stolen bases and a 6:18 BB:K across 99 plate appearances.
-
Connor Norby MIA 2B
Marlins' Connor Norby: Out of Friday's lineup
11h agoNorby is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Phillies.
Norby had started each of the previous six tilts but will get a breather in Friday's series opener. Christopher Morel will hold down first base for the Marlins.
-
Nico Hoerner CHC 2B
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Dealing with neck issue
12h agoHoerner was removed from Friday's game against the Diamondbacks due to left-sided neck tightness, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
The 28-year-old doubled and scored during the opening frame but was replaced by a pinch hitter during the second inning. The severity of the injury isn't clear, but the Cubs could offer some more information after Friday's contest. Hoerner should be considered day-to-day for now.
-
Nico Hoerner CHC 2B
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Exits game with neck injury
12h agoHoerner was removed from Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks in the second inning with left-sided neck tightness, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Hoerner doubled and scored in the bottom of the first inning but was then pinch-hit for when his spot in the lineup came up again in the bottom of the second. It sounds like a day-to-day type injury, but the Cubs should have more on Hoerner's status after the contest.
-
Ketel Marte ARI 2B
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Taking seat Friday
16h agoMarte is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.
It's a rare day off for Marte, who had made 12 consecutive starts. Ildemaro Vargas will cover second base Friday, while Jose Fernandez will play first base and Adrian Del Castillo will slot in at designated hitter.
-
Brandon Lowe PIT 2B
Pirates' Brandon Lowe: Slugs eighth homer
1d agoLowe went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Thursday against the Cardinals.
Lowe briefly pulled the Pirates to within one run in the seventh inning with his eighth home run of the season. That marked his first long ball since April 14, a span of 11 starts. After a hot start to the campaign, Lowe is hitting only .235 with one home run, five RBI and five runs scored across his last 12 games.
-
Alec Bohm PHI 3B
Phillies' Alec Bohm: Two hits, RBI against Miami
2h agoBohm went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 6-5 win over the Marlins.
Bohm now has a pair of multi-hit games in his last three appearances after producing just three multi-hit efforts across the Phillies' first 28 games. His batting average has been stuck below .200 since April 7, as the 29-year-old third baseman is slashing just .164/.228/.218 with one home run, 14 RBI, seven runs scored and an 8:20 BB:K across 123 trips to the plate. He's experienced sharp declines in his barrel rate and hard-hit percentage from last season. Bohm was a useful source of batting average with limited pop, but now he's not hitting for average or power in 2026. Just four of Bohm's 18 hits this season have gone for extra bases.
-
Edmundo Sosa PHI 3B
Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Two hits, RBI, SB in win Friday
2h agoSosa went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 6-5 win over the Marlins.
After starting four straight games from April 14-18, Sosa made just his third start in the last eight days Friday. He's been one of the team's more consistent hitters of late. Over his last 12 appearances, Sosa is 12-for-37 (.324) at the plate with three doubles, one home run, six RBI, four runs scored, two stolen bases and a 1:7 BB:K.
-
Ildemaro Vargas ARI 3B
Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Extends streak with four-hit game
8h agoVargas went 4-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs.
While Arizona wasn't able to take advantage of having Vargas on base every time through the order, it was still another impressive effort from the 34-year-old switch hitter. Vargas has hit safely in 24 straight games to begin the campaign, tied for the second-longest streak within a single season in Diamondbacks history with Tony Womack in 2000, and his overall streak stands at 27 games dating back to the end of last year -- putting him within striking distance of matching or exceeding Luis Gonzalez's club-record streak of 30 games, set in 1999. Vargas is slashing a stunning .404/.429/.702 so far in 2026 with 14 extra-base hits, including six homers to already tie his career high, along with 19 runs and 21 RBI.
-
Kyle Karros COL 3B
Rockies' Kyle Karros: Not in lineup Friday
10h agoKarros is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest versus Atlanta.
It's a routine day off for Karros, who had started each of the previous 14 games. Willi Castro will handle third base and bat seventh for the Rockies in the series opener.
-
Zach McKinstry DET 3B
Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Begins rehab assignment
17h agoMcKinstry (hip) went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Thursday in his first rehab game with Single-A Lakeland.
McKinstry has been cleared for game action after missing the past two weeks with left hip/abdominal inflammation. He didn't play a full game Thursday, and the Tigers likely want him to do that before he's activated, but McKinstry could return to Detroit's active roster as soon as next week.
-
Tyler Freeman COL 3B
Rockies' Tyler Freeman: First homer of 2026
18h agoFreeman went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Reds.
Freeman was in the lineup for the third time in the last four games, as he splits his time between DH and right field. He led off the scoring for the Rockies on Thursday with a blast in the first inning. It was Freeman's first homer of the season, and he continues to pick things up at the plate, having hit .303 with six RBI and three runs scored across his last 10 games.
-
Sam Antonacci CHW SS
White Sox's Sam Antonacci: Two hits Friday
1h agoAntonacci went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Padres.
Antonacci helped start a six-run rally in the second inning, driving in a run with a single while also coming around to score. He later collected another hit to record multiple knocks in a game for the second time in his first 10 starts in the majors. Antonacci is hitting .250 across 53 plate appearances, and he also has at least one RBI in three straight games.
-
Colson Montgomery CHW SS
White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Lifts ninth homer
1h agoMontgomery went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a second run scored in Friday's 8-2 win over the Padres.
Montgomery went deep in the fifth inning to stretch the White Sox's lead to 7-0 at the time. The shortstop has hit safely in four straight contests, going 5-for-16 (.313) with two homers and three RBI in that span. He's up to nine homers, 22 RBI, 15 runs scored and one stolen base over 32 contests this season while maintaining a .237 batting average and .859 OPS. He also has a 28.8 percent strikeout rate, but that's tolerable as long as he continues to slug.
-
Otto Lopez MIA SS
Marlins' Otto Lopez: Three more hits Friday
2h agoLopez went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Phillies.
Lopez now has a trio of three-hit games in the last seven contests and has recorded multiple hits in 11 of Miami's 32 games to begin the season. He smacked his eighth double in the bottom of the first inning and then produced RBI singles in the eighth and ninth. Lopez is now slashing .333/.371/.504 with three home runs, 14 RBI, 22 runs scored, five stolen bases and a 6:26 BB:K across 132 plate appearances.
-
Carlos Correa HOU SS
Astros' Carlos Correa: Productive night in loss
4h agoCorrea went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Red Sox.
Correa was responsible for the Astros' only run, launching a solo shot in the third inning. The 31-year-old also recorded his third three-hit performance of the season and has now tallied five extra-base hits, six runs scored and six RBI over his past 10 games. He's been impressive in the early going, slashing .288/.370/.441 with three homers, 15 RBI, 21 runs scored and a stolen base across 127 plate appearances.
-
Angel Martinez CLE SS
Guardians' Angel Martinez: Getting rest Friday
8h agoMartinez isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.
Martinez will get a breather after making six consecutive starts and going 6-for-24 with two homers, five RBI and a steal in that span. His absence will allow Chase DeLauter to start in right field while Rhys Hoskins serves as Cleveland's designated hitter.
-
Ernie Clement TOR SS
Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Getting first day off
9h agoClement is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.
Clement started Toronto's first 31 games of the season, but he'll receive his first day off Friday while in the midst of a 2-for-14 slump. Lenyn Sosa will instead man the keystone and bat sixth versus Minnesota righty Simeon Woods Richardson.
-
Chase DeLauter CLE RF
-
Connor Joe SEA RF
Mariners' Connor Joe: Lifts homer in loss
45m agoJoe went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Royals.
Joe's homer was his first of the season. The 33-year-old has hit safely in his last four contests, going 4-for-11 in that span. He's filling a depth role for the Mariners with the ability to cover first base and both corner outfield spots, though the bulk of his playing time will come against left-handed pitchers. Joe has added three RBI, two runs scored, a double and one stolen base over 17 plate appearances this season.
-
Randy Arozarena SEA LF
Mariners' Randy Arozarena: Pops homer Friday
1h agoArozarena went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Royals.
Arozarena had gone nine games without a long ball, though he had four doubles, a triple and two stolen bases in that span. The outfielder has been striking out a bit too much lately with 15 of them over his last 10 contests. Still, he's batting .288 with an .835 OPS, three homers, 12 RBI, 23 runs scored, seven stolen bases, nine doubles and one triple across 33 games on the year.
-
Julio Rodriguez SEA CF
Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Swats pair of homers
1h agoRodriguez went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run home runs in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Royals.
Rodriguez doubled his homer total for the year with this performance, though it still wasn't enough for the Mariners. The outfielder has warmed up with six multi-hit efforts over his last 10 contests, a span that includes three of his four homers for the year. Rodriguez is batting .262 with a .733 OPS, 16 RBI, 16 runs scored, six doubles and three stolen bases over 33 games. He's been a slow starter in his career, so this could be the kind of power outburst he needs to spark his overall production, as his bat's already gaining some momentum.
-
Fernando Tatis Jr. SD RF
Padres' Fernando Tatis: On base four times in loss
1h agoTatis went 3-for-3 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 8-2 loss to the White Sox.
Tatis logged a three-hit effort for just the second time this season. The triple was his first extra-base hit since he had a double in his other three-hit game April 11 versus the Rockies. The lack of power is a concern, but Tatis has racked up three steals over the last four games. For the season, he's batting. 270 with a .665 OPS, no home runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored, four doubles and nine steals across 31 games.
-
Jarren Duran BOS CF
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Powers offense in win
5h agoDuran went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 3-1 win over the Astros.
Duran's three-run blast in the third inning proved to be the game-winner. It was a much-needed swing, as the 29-year-old entered the game hitless over his previous four contests and hadn't gone deep since April 13. For the year, he owns a disappointing .173/.232/.279 slash line with two home runs, 14 RBI, 16 runs scored and five steals across 112 plate appearances.
-
Joey Cantillo CLE SP
Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Takes no-decision in short outing
19m agoCantillo allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over four innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Friday.
Cantillo got off to a rough start, giving up a two-run home run to Brent Rooker in the first inning.
-
Bryan Woo SEA SP
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Struggles again Friday
1h agoWoo allowed six runs on seven hits and struck out two without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus the Royals on Friday.
Woo wasn't great early, allowing the Royals to pile up four runs in the top of the first inning. He then gave up solo shots to Vinnie Pasquantino and Jac Caglianone in the sixth inning, though the Mariners managed to get Woo off the hook. The right-hander has had some unusual struggles, allowing 13 runs over nine innings across his last two starts, though those are his only two outings with no walks issued this season. Woo is now at a 4.61 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 29:6 K:BB through 41 innings over seven starts. For now, it looks to just be a slump, and he'll try to bounce back in a tough home matchup against Atlanta next week.
-
German Marquez SD SP
Padres' German Marquez: Hit hard in loss
1h agoMarquez (3-2) allowed seven runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two over five innings to take the loss versus the White Sox on Friday.
Marquez got lit up in the second inning, as the White Sox tagged him for six runs in the frame, including a three-run home run by Munetaka Murakami. Colson Montgomery added a solo shot in the fifth to make this the third time Marquez has allowed multiple homers in a start. Interestingly, all of those multi-homer outings have come at spacious Petco Park. Marquez is at a 5.76 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB across 29.2 innings through six starts this season. His next outing is tentatively projected to be on the road in San Francisco.
-
Noah Schultz CHW SP
White Sox's Noah Schultz: Shines again Friday
2h agoSchultz (2-1) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out two over six scoreless innings to earn the win over the Padres on Friday.
Schultz turned in his second straight quality start. There were a couple of downsides Friday -- his two strikeouts were a season-low mark, and he's now walked at least three batters in three of his four starts. On the positive side, he's at a 2.53 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB across 21.1 innings, with his two wins being against Atlanta and San Diego. Schultz is tentatively projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels.
-
Eury Perez MIA SP
Marlins' Eury Perez: Strikes out six against Philly
2h agoPerez (2-3) took the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts across five innings.
Perez breezed through the first three innings, piling up five strikeouts, but he ran into trouble in the fourth with two runs allowed on three hits, one walk and a wild pitch. Perez has some of the best pure stuff in baseball, but he's been hurt by inconsistent command. The right-hander has allowed at last three runs in six of seven starts to begin the season and now owns a 4.46 ERA and 39:16 K:BB across 36.1 innings. The swing-and-miss stuff is there, but Perez needs to be sharper and work deeper into games. He's made it six innings just twice. The 23-year-old is lined up to face Baltimore at home next week.

Brad Keller PHI SP
Phillies' Brad Keller: Picks up save Friday
3h agoKeller recorded the save in Friday's 6-5 win over the Marlins, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.
Closer Jhoan Duran (oblique) has been sidelined since April 11, and Friday was Keller's first save chance in Duran's absence. Keller has been shaky this season and has now allowed a run in three of his last four appearances. However, he's yet to blow a save opportunity and owns a 1-0 record with four holds and a 4.61 ERA with 15 strikeouts to four walks across 13.2 innings.

Lucas Erceg KC RP
Royals' Lucas Erceg: Converts eighth save
1h agoErceg struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 7-6 win over the Mariners.
Erceg has settled back in after back-to-back blown saves in mid-April. He's allowed just one unearned run over his last five innings, picking up three saves and two wins over five appearances in that span. For the season, the right-hander has a 4.05 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB with eight saves and a hold over 13.1 innings. Erceg continues to fill in as the Royals' primary closer while Carlos Estevez (foot) works his way back to full health.

Cole Ragans KC RP
Royals' Cole Ragans: Yields three homers in no-decision
1h agoRagans allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Friday.
All of the runs against Ragans came via the long ball. Julio Rodriguez had a two-run home run in the first inning, and Connor Joe and Randy Arozarena added solo shots in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Ragans has alternated good and bad starts all year, and this was the third time he's surrendered three homers. Overall, he has a 5.29 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 41:21 K:BB across 32.1 innings over seven starts. He's tentatively lined up to make his next start at home versus the Guardians.

Phillies' Orion Kerkering: Turns in another scoreless outing

Jhoan Duran PHI RP
Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Set for another bullpen Saturday
3h agoDuran (oblique) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Duran tossed his first bullpen session Thursday, and it doesn't look like he'll be reinstated from the 15-day injured list this weekend. The hard-throwing right-hander is inching towards returning from a left oblique strain, but the Phillies don't want to rush their closer until he's 100 percent healthy. Brad Keller, who secured his first save of 2026 during Friday's win in Miami, appears to be serving as Philadelphia's interim closer in Duran's stead.

Mason Englert TB RP
Rays' Mason Englert: Progressing in throwing program
3h agoEnglert (forearm) is set to throw a bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Boyle faced live hitters in batting practice Thursday, and he could go on a minor-league rehab assignment after Sunday's bullpen. The right-hander is working his way back from right forearm tightness, and he's tracking toward rejoining Tampa Bay's bullpen in mid-to-late May. It's worth mentioning that Rays want Englert to be built back up to work multiple innings.

Ryan Helsley BAL RP
Orioles' Ryan Helsley: No structural damage in elbow
4h agoImaging on Helsley's right elbow came back negative Friday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Manager Craig Albernaz said that he isn't too concerned about Helsley's elbow now that the team knows he isn't dealing with any structural damage. He added that the 31-year-old reliever has been dealing with elbow discomfort for the past week but thought the issue would subside on its own. Helsley is now set to remain sidelined until at least May 15, though Albernaz's comments suggest he may not need much more than a minimum-length stay on the IL. In the meantime, Rico Garcia and Yennier Cano figure to be the leading candidates for saves in Baltimore.

Mets' Mark Vientos: Sitting Friday
8h agoVientos is not in the Mets' starting lineup against the Angels on Friday.
Vientos will take a seat for Friday's series opener while Brett Baty draws the start at first base and bats fifth. Vientos has reached base safely in six of his last seven games, and over that span he has gone 6-for-22 (.273) with two RBI and a 4:7 BB:K.

10h agoStanton (calf) has not been cleared to resume running, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Luis Torrens NYM DH
Mets' Luis Torrens: Struggles continue Thursday
17h agoTorrens went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Thursday's loss to the Nationals.
The Mets have bigger problems right now than the production they're getting from their No. 2 catcher, but Torrens has still gone just 2-for-18 without a run or an RBI over his last eight appearances dating back to April 9. He'll continue providing Francisco Alvarez with occasional breathers, but Torrens isn't making any kind of case for a bigger role.
-
Byron Buxton MIN DH
Twins' Byron Buxton: Remains hot Thursday
1d agoBuxton went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a double in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Blue Jays.
Buxton produced three of Minnesota's six hits in the victory, with his biggest knock being a sixth-inning solo homer. That long ball was the third over his past four games and eighth overall this season. Buxton is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, during which he's batting .409 (9-for-22) with three homers, four runs, four RBI and a stolen base. He's increased his season OPS from .705 to .810 over the hot stretch.

Yordan Alvarez HOU DH
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Smacks 12th homer
1d agoAlvarez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three total runs scored in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
Alvarez extended Houston's lead to 6-0 in the second inning of Thursday's nightcap with a 424-foot blast off Brandon Young, his 12th homer of the year, tying Aaron Judge and Munetaka Murakami for the league lead. It was another huge effort from Alvarez after he went 0-for-4 in the opening game of the doubleheader, ending a 13-game hitting streak. The 28-year-old slugger is now slashing an eye-popping .356/.462/.737 through his first 143 plate appearances this season with 27 RBI and 25 runs scored.

Mark Vientos NYM DH
Mets' Mark Vientos: Playing regularly at first base
2d agoVientos will start at first base and bat cleanup in Thursday's game against the Nationals.
Vientos appeared to fade into a part-time role a couple of weeks ago, but he's re-emerged as a more stable member of the lineup since Jorge Polanco (wrist) was placed on the injured list April 18. Vientos will claim his ninth start in 11 games Thursday, despite producing a lackluster .231/.333/.346 slash line to go with one home run and two RBI over the prior 10 contests.
