Alec Bohm's wRC+ increased for the second straight season, and while he exhibited better plate skills, his batted-ball metrics took a small step back. Specifically, his average exit velocity and hard-hit rate dipped a tad from 2022. A slight increase in launch angle helped counter hitting the ball with less authority, resulting in Bohm's first 20-homer season. He only attempted five steals, the same as the previous season, but Bohm was successful four times as opposed to twice in 2022, hinting he could run a little more this season. Bohm's defense improved, but it was still well below average, and with Bryce Harper entrenched at first base, Bohm is ticketed for the hot corner. He's also probably also going to continue to hit lower in the order, costing Bohm some plate appearances. Bohm is solid, but expecting another level is risky.

  • Phillies' Alec Bohm: Lands on injured list

The Phillies placed Bohm (hand) on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 3, due to a left hand strain. The 28-year-old hasn't seen the field since Aug. 29 due to the injury, and the Phillies finally opted to move him to the injured list after six straight absences. Bohm will be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 13, though it's unclear if he's expected to be healthy by that point. Buddy Kennedy was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move, but it'll likely be a combination of Edmundo Sosa and Kody Clemens that fills in at third base for Philadelphia.
