Angels general manager Billy Eppler confirmed Tuesday that Detmers would be included in the team's 60-man player pool for the 2020 season after agreeing to a contract over the weekend that includes a $4.67 million signing bonus, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The No. 10 overall pick in the first-year player draft earlier this month, Detmers will most likely be part of the Angels' "taxi squad" rather than a member of the 30-man roster that Los Angeles will take into Opening Day in late July. Detmers' inclusion in the 60-man pool will at least allow the Angels to oversee his development, as the organization won't have the option of assigning him to an affiliate with the 2020 minor-league season likely to be cancelled. The 20-year-old southpaw lacks high-end velocity but is viewed as a potential No. 2 or mid-rotation starter in the long haul thanks to his stellar command and pitchability.
