The Athletics selected Schuemann's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday.
Schuemann, 26, slashed .276/.402/.430 with 10 home runs and 23 steals between Double-A Midland and Las Vegas last season. He's played every position other than pitcher and catcher in the minors and will make his major-league debut once he gets into a game.
