Almonte signed a one-year, non-guaranteed major-league contract with Atlanta on Friday.
The non-guaranteed nature of the deal presumably means Almonte isn't a particularly significant part of Atlanta's plans, but he'll be given the chance to earn a roster spot. The 31-year-old has received big-league at-bats in eight straight seasons, though he's only once played more than 80 games and appeared in just seven for the Padres last year.
