Kalish was added to the 40-man roster and called up to the majors Tuesday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
With Matt Szczur headed to the disabled list, a spot opened up on the Cubs roster, and they needed another outfielder to fill the role. Kalish is raking with Triple-A Iowa, holding a .368/.471/.509 batting average, but he hasn't appeared in the majors since 2014 and only has a .245 batting average in his big league career. Between this and limited playing time, it could be tough for Kalish to get much going at the plate in Chicago. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, Christian Villanueva was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
