Yardley elected free agency Friday instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Nashville.
Yardley struggled to a 6.75 ERA in 18.2 major-league innings this season, striking out just five batters while walking 10. That performance will likely make it hard for him to find a major-league deal this offseason, though his 1.80 ERA in 35 innings over the previous two years could help him generate at least some interest.
