Mariners' Jaime Schultz: Joins Mariners on minors deal

Schultz signed with the Mariners on Monday as a non-roster invitee.

Schultz earned a bit of time at the big-league level in both 2018 and 2019, but his 5.86 ERA in 35.1 innings of work doesn't inspire much confidence. His 25.9 percent strikeout rate is above league average, but it's been more than offset by a high 13.6 percent walk rate and a very low 28.2 percent groundball rate. If he earns any innings in Seattle this season they will likely come in a low-leverage relief role.
