Esch was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Esch, who allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in 1.2 spring frames, failed to deliver much in three MLB starts last year (5.54 ERA) and hasn't wowed with his minor league numbers (4.02 career ERA) either. The 26-year-old will continue serving as organizational depth.
