Tovar's contract was selected by the Mets on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The Mets are dealing with injuries up and down the lineup, so they'll turn to Tovar for at least a bench role. He's unlikely to do much if he finds his way into the lineup, as he's a career .188/.241/.238 hitter through his first 40 big-league games. Kevin Pillar (face) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move.
