McKenry cleared waivers and elected free agency Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
McKenry went through his waiver period unclaimed by a big league club but instead of returning to the Cardinals organization, he chose to become a free agent. The 31-year-old has slashed a robust .301/.424/.569 through 37 games at the Triple-A level this season and will likely be scooped up by another team that needs catching depth in the near future.
