Light was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Saturday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Light was designated in order to make room on the roster for recently selected Edgar Santana. The 27-year-old had not appeared in any games with the Pirates this season, posting a 4.13 ERA at the Triple-A level with Indianapolis. During the 2016 season, Light earned 17 appearances with the Red Sox and Twins, but allowed 21 earned runs in 16.2 innings with a 16:16 K:BB, making it a toss-up whether teams will claim him off waivers.
