Manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that Johnson's sprained right shoulder is "pretty severe" and that the right hander will likely miss "substantial time," Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Johnson was placed on the injured list earlier Tuesday. The right-hander is slated to get a second opinion on the injury, but for the time being, it sounds like he won't be pitching in a big-league game any time soon. While the Rays haven't provided a specific recovery timeline, Cash's comments would suggest there's at least a chance that Johnson's season is over.
