Swihart started at catcher and hit third Sunday in his first start since being demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket. He had one hit, a double, in five at-bats.

With the activation of Christian Vazquez off the disabled list, Boston had three catchers, so it was Swihart who was moved to clear out the redundancy and give himself regular starts in the minors. That way, he can continue to work on improving as a defensive catcher, while also adding some experience in the outfield. If Vazquez is to be the primary backstop in Boston, Swihart could get at-bats in a Boston lineup if he can play a passable left field.
