Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Shifts to COVID IL

Martinez (cold symptoms) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday.

The 33-year-old was withheld from Saturday's lineup due to cold symptoms, and he'll now be unavailable while on the COVID-IL. The specialized injured list doesn't have a minimum stay, so Martinez could make a quick return to the roster if he continues to test negative for the virus. Michael Chavis was recalled from the alternate training site in a corresponding move.
