Brothers elected free agency Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Brothers spent the last two seasons with the Cubs, and he logged a 5.26 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 53 innings across 57 relief appearances in 2021. However, the 33-year-old will opt to become a free agent rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa.
