  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Sitting Thursday

Alvarez isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.

Alvarez will get a day to regroup after going just 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts in six games since returning from the injured list. Hayden Senger will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Henry Davis RF | PIT

Pirates' Henry Davis: Out of Pittsburgh lineup

Davis is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Baltimore.

Davis started at catcher in each of the first two games of the series, so he'll get a breather during Thursday's matinee. Joey Bart is behind the dish and batting sixth for the Pirates.

  • Joe Mack C | MIA

Marlins' Joe Mack: Having huge finish to year

Mack went 1-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored for Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old backstop walked it off for the Jumbo Shrimp in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving Mack his 20th homer of the year between Double-A and Triple-A. He's gone yard in four straight games, and over his last 12 contests for Jacksonville he's slashing .325/.383/.950 with 10 of his 13 hits (two doubles, a triple and seven homers) going for extra bases. The presence of Agustin Ramirez ahead of him on the organizational depth chart complicates his timeline, but Mack appears ready to make his big-league debut in 2026, and he could be competing for a 26-man roster spot in spring training.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Goes deep in win

Kelly went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Atlanta.

Kelly continued his recent power surge, as he now has four home runs over his last six games. During that span, he's also tallied seven RBI and he's sporting a 1.058 OPS. Kelly now has 17 long balls for the season, which puts him within one of his previous career high. The Chicago catcher has already set a new career high with 50 RBI this year.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Stars two straight games

Stephenson started at catcher and went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Padres.

Stephenson, who recently returned from a fractured thumb, was in the starting lineup for a second straight game. It was the first time that he played in back-to-back contests since his return, and Stephenson operated as the catcher in both. Since returning, he's 2-for-14 with a double, a home run and four RBI over five games.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Scratched from lineup

Smith was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against Colorado due to right hand soreness.

Smith recently missed five games after getting hit on the hand by a pitch last Wednesday, and manager Dave Roberts has said that it will be something the 30-year-old backstop will have deal with for the rest of the season. While Smith takes a day off to nurse his hand, it will be Ben Rortvedt behind the plate catching for Blake Snell.

  • Jimmy Crooks C | STL

    Cardinals' Jimmy Crooks: Sitting Wednesday

Crooks isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

It initially seemed like Crooks would take over as the Cardinals' primary backstop to close out the regular season, but a 2-for-17 start to his MLB career will now cause him to miss his third start in four games. Pedro Pages will start behind the plate instead Wednesday, and it seems likely that the two players will split time at catcher during the final stretch.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Nursing bruised forearm

Contreras was held out of Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to a bruised forearm, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Contreras was initially in the Brewers' starting lineup after taking a pitch off his forearm Tuesday, but the team instead erred on the side of caution and subbed him out for Danny Jansen. Contreras will have an extra day off to rest before Milwaukee returns to play Friday versus St. Louis, at which point the Brewers will re-evaluate him.

  • Padres' Freddy Fermin: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Fermin isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Fermin will get a day to reset Wednesday after going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts across the first two games of the series. Elias Diaz will fill in as the Padres' backstop and bat ninth.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Out Wednesday with sore groin

Adams (groin) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Adams will get at least one game off after he was removed from Tuesday's 7-5 win during the bottom of the second inning after taking a foul tip to the groin area while he was catching. Per MLB.com, interim manager Miguel Cairo said after the game that Adams was "fine," but Jorge Alfaro will receive a turn behind the plate Wednesday.
