Smith underwent an ACL reconstruction on his left knee Tuesday and will remain out indefinitely, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Smith didn't make make his NBA debut during his rookie season, but he did make 18 appearances (nine) with the G League's Motor City Cruise, averaging 8.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 22.5 minutes per game. He's been sidelined since March 8 and can safely be ruled out for the rest of the season, but it remains unclear how the surgery will impact his availability for the 2022-23 campaign. Sankofa relays that Smith injured the same ACL during his time at UCLA, so the Pistons will likely be extremely cautious with their young forward.
