Blossomgame hasn't been available for any of the Cavaliers' games in the Salt Lake City or Las Vegas Summer Leagues due to a stress fracture in his leg, Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The forward is expected to make a full recovery in around three weeks. Blossomgame is apparently still with the Cavaliers in Las Vegas, even though the organization opted not to extend him a qualifying offer in advance of the summer slate. The injury thus comes at an unfortunate time, as he'll miss out on an opportunity to showcase his talents to prospective teams that may have been interesting in signing him this offseason. Blossomgame should be back to full strength well in advance of NBA training camps, but it may be too late for him to make a serious run at a roster spot by that point.
The Cavaliers aren't planning to extend Blossomgame a qualifying offer for 2019-20, meaning he'll become an unrestricted free agent July 1, Chris Manning of Cleveland Magazine reports. Reports surfaced over the weekend that the Cavaliers are earmarking one of their pair of two-way spots for undrafted rookie Dean Wade, and the organization appears set to facilitate that by parting ways with Blossomgame. The forward appeared in 27 games with the Cavaliers in 2018-19, averaging 4.2 points and 3.6 boards in 16.3 minutes per contest.
Blossomgame posted 29 points (12-23 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 0-4 FT), seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks in the Tuesday win over the Mad Ants. Blossomgame has rarely played with the Charge, registering just 18 games with the G League team. That's in large part because he's spending the majority of his time with the Cavs, but even when he's in the G League, he's only averaging 16.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.
Blossomgame finished with eight points (4-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt), 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in 29 minutes during Wednesday's 129-112 loss to the Trail Blazers. Blossomgame amassed a career high in blocks while matching his best rebounding total. This is the third time through 19 appearances that the rookie has hauled in 10 boards. Blossomgame had earned double-digit minutes in 12 of 14 appearances in December, but this is the first time through five January appearances that he has seen more than nine minutes.
Bloosomgame will come off the bench in Wednesday's game against the Heat, Spencer Davies of Basketball Insiders reports. Blossomgame was a regular in the Cavaliers' rotation for almost all of December, and after starting the last four games, he'll come off the bench upon the return of Rodney Hood (Achilles). Blossomgame, however, should still see some quality minutes off the bench as the Cavaliers continue to find roles for their younger players.
